Wood blockage and sediment transport at inclined bar screens

چکیده
Semi-permeable sediment traps are designed to retain during large floods and enable transport continuity ordinary by combining two barriers with a guiding channel. During floods, not only but also wood (LW) can be transported, that may block the inclined bar screen (mechanical barrier) inhibit transport. The design of has been tested LW. We conducted first set simplified flume experiments study effect (1) initial conditions, (2) design, (3) LW volume on First results demonstrate blocking 20% flow cross-section is sufficient reduce 50%. Hence, relevant parameter for screens. provide future research ideas local separation sediment.

Nonuniform Sediment Transport Modeling at Grays Harbor
A depth-averaged two-dimensional nonuniform sediment transport model is applied to the beaches adjacent to Grays Harbor, WA, USA to test the model skill in predicting nearshore morphology change. The model considers bed material hiding, exposure, sorting, stratification, bed-slope effects, avalanching, non-erodible bed surfaces, and transport due to asymmetrical waves, Stokes drift, roller and ...
متن کاملSediment Transport in Unsteady Flow Conditions
Sediment transport under unsteady flow condition is studied experimentally. In the first step, sediment transport under different steady flow conditions was measured and an empirical equation was derived for its calculation. In the next step, two continuous and three stepwise hydrographs were generated in the flume, and their sediment transport rate was measured. The continuous hydrographs were...
متن کاملSediment Transport at Density Fronts in Shallow Water
Our research approach combines advanced observational and modeling techniques. In the field, we will measure velocity and suspended sediment at high resolution (~ few cm) in shallow flows, tracking the evolution of the salinity front through the tidal cycle. The instrumentation will incorporate an acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP) to measure currents and a profiling conductivitytemperatu...
متن کاملCommunity Sediment Transport Model
The goal of this project is to produce an open-source model that couples hydrodynamics (circulation and waves), sediment transport, and morphodynamics. The need and value for such a model has been well established by previous NOPP-supported planning efforts (Sherwood et al., 2000; 2002) and the feasibility of the proposed approach has been demonstrated by incorporation of sediment-transport and...
